Drive through the wealthy southern neighborhood of La Paz to reach the small lagoon of ‘Uni’ where our downhill hike through the Palca Canyon begins. Similar to Moon Valley, “The Ánimas Valley” (“The Souls’ Valley”) is comprised of remarkable natural and geological formations. Take in the sights with an experienced guide to learn about the mystique surrounding this inspiring landscape.

Highlights

  • Enjoy the views of the lagoon of ‘Uni’
  • Traverse the impressive landscape of the Palca Canyon and Valle de las Ánimas

Itinerary

  • Our Valle de las Ánimas and Palca Canyon Half Day Tour begins with an 08:00 pick up from your hotel before heading to the southernmost reaches of La Paz. Take in the sights of the wealthier neighborhoods of the city, contrasting the vast differences in both architecture and culture. We continue downhill, 2 ½ hour hike descending in to the Palca Canyon.
  • The landscape through the soul valley or valle de las animas displays the raw power that Mother Nature possesses. Very similar to the Moon Valley, rocky bluffs and columns litter the landscape; a result of thousands of years of exposure to the elements and its ensuing erosion.
  • Towards the back of the valley is the famous and sacred Illimani Mountain, with its massive slopes sleepily watching over us as we hike through the canyon. Here we can kind a multitude of rare and endangered species including vizcacha, chinchillas and if we're lucky, the illusive Andean Condor; a very special site in the Andean region as it is becoming more and more endangered each year.
  • Enjoy a picnic lunch at the end of the hike amid the remarkable landscape and its native inhabitants, under the watchful eye of Illimani. We will then head back to our private transport and make our way back to La Paz where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
