  • Take in the sights and massive rock formations of the Moon Valley
  • Scramble up and over the rough creations to snap some memorable photos

Itinerary

  • Departing from the hotel, visitors – accompanied by a bilingual (Spanish-English) local tour guide – will descend from the altitude of La Paz's main city hub headed south. This 30 minute ride via private transportation curves through a diverse array of neighborhoods, each seemingly with their own story. Listen to your friendly guide as he explains some of these neighborhoods, their importance in Bolivian history and their place in contemporary times. As we continue south, the colorful, Omni-present sedimentary mountains never leave our side. We then enter the wealthier parts of the city, passing by large houses surrounded by high walls and sitting next to lush green patches of grass engulfed in flowers.
  • Climbing up a steep embankment, we finally reach the protected area of Moon Valley (located about 10 km. from downtown La Paz). After passing through the entrance gate, pay attention as your guide explains the strange formations before heading off on your own to explore.
  • Caused by thousands of years of expose to the elements, a mountainside slowly eroded into that is today Moon Valley. Because the landscape is comprised of tough clay, rather than rock, the outcome of centuries of erosion has created an interesting and relatively bizarre network of crevasses, ridges and columns; like a desert filled with stalagmites. The surrounding mountains are almost as curious, with colors varying from a dark red to orange, light brown, beige and even violet. This phenomenon is caused due to the mineral content – which follows no particular pattern, varying from peak to peak - of the mountains. Another sight located next to Moon Valley, which can best be seen while entering the park, is the highest golf course in the world: La Paz Golf Club, located at 3,291 m. above sea level.
  • After exploring the area, we will depart back to the hotel, where the rest of the day can be spent as you wish.
