Sucre , the constitutional capital of Bolivia , is a living
example of both the colonial era and modern times. It is an
open book concerning historical happenings between 1640 and
1850 and was a significant influence in new republics in other
Andean countries as well. Besides its historical interest, it
is also an important cultural center with colonial museums and
the weaving industry, based in Tarabuco, which is working to
restore the traditional ways of textile production.
Visit the city. (Half day) ) Visit the
exterior Recoleta of the San Lazaro Church and the exterior of
the Santo Domingo University Museum . Visit also the General
Cemetery and the Capellanica House to appreciate the textiles
from Jalq'a and Tarabuco. This is the tour where you will
encounter the past and its traditions.
In the full day tour , you will continue
after lunch and visit the Freedom House, the Metropolitan
Cathedral, the Liberty Bell in the San Francisco Convent and
the Convent of San Felipe.
Dinosaur Tracks (Half Day). There are more
than 100 dinosaur tracks located at only 4 kilometers from the
city in the Cal Orko fields. These tracks were made about 65
to 70 million years ago. At the end a visit to the Natural
History Museum.
Tarabuco and Jatun Yampara (Full Day).
Sundays Only. Visit the traditional Tarabuco artisan
market where you will witness the authentic customs and
traditions of the local people. After lunch in Jatun Yampara,
you can buy weavings directly from the artisans. |
